The HELL.

OK, so, there are a million new commercials for the Olympics, that's nothing new. I'm skipping most of them thanks to the miracle of TiVo. That's also nothing new. Some of them are even funny enough or weird enough for me to go back and investigate them. ("It's not a sandwich.")

Anyway, one of them is a Chevy ad that features a trio of painted-barechest fanboy idiots who spell USA. Fine, OK, that's also nothing new...

... except that in the course of the ad, two of them explicitly let the third one die because they don't want to be without the "S" in their formation for the time it would take to get him to the hospital. Instead, they just carry his frozen-solid corpse around on the top of their Blazer (or whatever the hell it is) from event to event, loan him out to other groups of fans, and generally have themselves a grand time using their dead buddy as a prop to demonstrate their team spirit.

OK, before you point it out to me, I know it's supposed to be absurd. I get that. I understand it's supposed to be funny.

I'm just saying it's not.

Not a big Weekend at Bernie's fan, I take it. :)

Well, no, I'm not, but even putting that aside, the protagonists in this particular short film deliberately make the decision to let the guy die 'cause it would shackle their buzz to get help for him, which (IIRC) is a slight but significant departure from the Weekend at Bernie's formula.

I dunno, I just think that's grotesque and pathetic, especially as an advertisement.

Just saw the commercial. Yes, pretty damned tasteless.
